Kara’s native Coloradan husband, Russ, reminded her how much she loves the outdoors during periods of injury throughout college and just after graduation. Their relocation from San Diego to Colorado Springs after her 2012 ACL tear brought balance and better coaching opportunities to her life, and her career as a javelin thrower has been rejuvenated as a result! This 3x Olympian loves hiking with Maddie the yellow lab just as much as traveling the world to throw a stick, and fuels all adventures the way any hive member loves to. Dreams for the future include the Tokyo Olympics and thru-hiking the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail.
MOST BUZZWORTHY ACCOMPLISHMENT:
Finished fifth at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar: higher than any other female javelin thrower in U.S. history at a World Championships, and the best that any American javelin thrower has done since Breaux Greer (her counterpart as the men’s American Record Holder) won bronze in Osaka in 2007.
